Buhari makes first appointment, renews AGF tenure

The director of communications, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHoSCF), Mrs Wunmi Ogunmosunle, announced the appointment in a statement on Wednesday, June 19, in Abuja, Daily Trust reports.
It should be noted that the appointed is coming after they has been heavy criticism of his refusal to make appointments three weeks after his inauguration for his second term.
According to the director, the letter of appointment was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha,
Director Wunmi also said that the appointment will take effect from Tuesday, June 25.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Ahmed Idris for the second and final term of four years as Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, in accordance with Section 171 of the 199 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended),” she said.
It was also gathered that Mr Idris, who was first appointed in June 2015, was the director of finance and account at the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.
Idris had also served as director of finance and accounts at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) headquarters, Abuja.
Meanwhile,a source earlier reported that President Buhari announced the approval of a total sum of N208 billion to federal universities for the tackling of infrastructure deficiencies in the tertiary institutions.
Buhari made the announcement at the convocation of the University of Abujaadding that the approval was made through the tertiary education trust fund.
Represented by Sonny Echono, permanent secretary in the ministry of education, the president pleaded with the nation’s universities to help with solutions to the country’s various challenges.
Buhari noted the advantage the country has in its population how this can be harnessed to ensure the country shifts its focus from oil.
