41-year-old widower weds 13-year-girl three months after meeting on Facebook, family approves of the marriage

Over the past couple of years, the Indonesian province of South Sulawesi has been in the news with alarming frequency for viral stories of children getting married, either among themselves or with much older adults.
According to reports, a 41-year-old widower named Rustam Ashary last week married a 13-year-old girl, who has been identified by her initials SW, both of whom are from the Sidrap regency of South Sulawesi.
Rustam met SW on Facebook, and the pair reportedly communicated via the social media platform for three months before deciding to marry.
We the families gave our blessings to their relationship,” SW’s mother, Nurhayati, told Detik after her child’s marriage, insisting that her daughter was never pressured into marrying Rustam and that they are now happy together.

“She’s still in Grade 1 at an MTs (religious middle school, equivalent to grade 7),” Nurhayati added when asked about her daughter’s schooling.
Photos from Rustam and SW’s wedding day have circulated online, some showing them holding up their marriage certificate, confirming that the union is legally recognized.
The South Sulawesi provincial government say they had no legal jurisdiction to prevent Rustam and SW’s marriage, but now that it has happened they are focusing on ensuring that SW still receives her rights as a child.
“We want to ensure she gets her rights such as to a full education,” South Sulawesi Child Protection Services Head Nur Anti told Detik .
Nur added that the government has urged SW to delay her pregnancy until after she finishes formal schooling, but the reality is that it would be difficult for them to intervene in Rustam and SW’s private lives, whereas, if they weren’t legally married, the 13-year-old would be considered a victim of statutory rape.
The current legal age of marriage in Indonesia is 19 years old for men and 16 years old for women. However, the country’s 1974 Law on Marriage also includes a major loophole to this requirement which allows marriages to still be considered legal if they are done “in accordance” with religious belief, known as nikah siri.
As such, underage marriages that have been sanctified by religious courts or officials must still be officially recognized by the government — if not, many are satisfied with merely fulfilling religious or traditional requirements for marriage.

Biafra: Court revokes Kanu’s bail, issues bench warrant for his arrest Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/03/biafra-court-revokes-kanus-bail-issues-bench-warrant-for-his-arrest

ABUJA- The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, issued a bench warrant for arrest of the leader of the proscribed Indegeniuos People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu

The court, in a ruling by trial Justice Binta Nyako, equally revoked the bail it earlier granted to the IPOB leader who is facing treasonable felony charge. Placing reliance on section 352(4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015, the court, said it would go ahead to try Kanu in absentia. Justice Nyako said the order was informed by the inability of Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, to give “cogent, compelling and verifiable reason” why his client repeatedly failed to appear in court to answer to the charge the Federal Government preferred against him. The court subsequently fixed June 18 to commence Kanu’s trial in his absence. The ruling followed an application FG made on Wednesday after Kanu’s case was called up for trial. Kanu, whose whereabouts has remained unknown since September 2017, was hitherto answering to a five-count charge FG entered against him and three other pro-Biafra agitators, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi. Meanwhile, shortly after the IPOB leader was declared “missing”, trial Justice Nyako, on February 20, 2018, okayed separate trial for the other three defendants. Kanu, who has dual citizenship, had since been reportedly sighted at various locations outside the country, including Jerusalem and the United Kingdom. FG’s lawyer, Mr. M. S. Labaran, had at the resumed proceeding, persuaded the court to revoke the bail it granted to the defendant on April 25, 2016. Labaran drew attention of the court to the fact that all the three persons that stood surety for the IPOB leader, had since applied to withdraw from the matter. “We humbly submit that the defendant has been given adequate opportunity in line with Section 352(4) of the ACJA. “When he failed to utilize such opportunity, the court took the appropriate step of initiating proceeding requiring the sureties to show cause. “Even at that, this court has been so magnanimous in granting several adjournments, giving the sureties the opportunity to show cause. “Consequent upon which the court delivered a ruling on November 14, 2018, for the sureties to forfeit their bail bond. A matter that is currently the subject of appeal.

“It is on record that even the sureties have applied to withdraw because they cannot explain the whereabouts of the defendant. “It is our submission that the request by counsel to the defendant is rather belated. This is the kind of application that he ought to have brought when the court after granting the defendant bail, adjourned for nearly 12 months. “We urge the court to discountenance the request for adjournment to give any explanation, and order that the bail be revoked, and issue a bench warrant against the defendant. Finally, we urge the court to issue an order for trial of the defendant in absentia, in compliance with relevant portions of the law”. Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ejiofor, had earlier made frantic efforts to convince the court to grant a short adjournment to enable him to file affidavit evidence to explain reasons behind the defendant’s disappearance, was refused. Ejiofor had insisted that Kanu’s disappearances was occasioned by the unwarranted invasion of his home by the Nigerian Army. He was however overruled by the trial Judge who traced the history of the case and Kanu’s repeated failure to make himself available for trial since he was released on bail. “I am of the opinion that learned counsel is only seeking for time to delay the inevitable”Justice Nyako held. The court had on April 25, 2016, released Kanu on bail on health ground after he had spent a year and seven months in detention. To secure Kanu’s release, Abaribe, Uchendu and a Jewish High Priest, Emmanu El- Salom Oka BenMadu, on April 28, 2016, signed an undertaking to ensure his attendance in court. Meantime, Justice Nyako, on Wednesday, adjourned sine-die (indefinitely), an earlier proceeding the court initiated for all the sureties to appear and show cause why they should not forfeit the N100million the each deposited as bond for Kanu to be released on bail. Justice Nyako had on October 10, 2017, ordered the three sureties to show cause why they should not be committed to prison over Kanu’s repeated failure to appear for continuation of his trial, or why the N100m they individually deposited to secure his bail should not be forfeited to the Federal Government. Alternatively, the court said the sureties were at liberty to produce the IPOB leader for his trial. The order followed an application FG made pursuant to section 179 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015. In a ruling on November 14, 2018, Justice Nyako ordered the sureties to in the interim, deposit the bail bond in the court within two months. All the sureties have however gone before the Court of Appeal to challenge the ruling. FG had among other things, alleged that Kanu imported Radio transmitter known as TRAM 50L, which was concealed in a container that was declared as used household items, for the purpose of using same to disseminate information about secession plans by the IPOB. FG further alleged that Kanu, “on or about the 28th April, 2015 in London, United Kingdom did in a broadcast on Radio Biafra monitored in Enugu, Enugu state and other parts of Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, referred to Major General Muhammadu Buhari, GCON, President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a paedophile, a terrorist, an idiot and an embodiment of evil, knowing same to be false and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 375 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C. 38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004."

Teacher to die by hanging for raping 4-year-old pupil so badly she had to have her intestines realigned (Photos)

A teacher has been sentenced to death by hanging for raping a four-year-old student so badly that the toddler had to have her intestines realigned.
Mahendra Singh Gond is due to be hanged next month after he raped the child on June 30 last year in India’s Madhya Pradesh district.

He raped the girl so badly that he rearranged her insides, then he dumped her body in a jungle area, assuming she was dead.
A desperate search was launched, before the girl’s family found her with agonizing injuries and rushed her to hospital. Her injuries were so severe that she had to be airlifted to a Delhi hospital where she had an operation to realign her intestines, reports Times Now News.

Gond was arrested within hours of the horrific attack and he was convicted after the girl made a statement during her recovery.
Gond was sentenced to capital punishment on September 19 last year. He is due to be executed at 5am on March 2.

However, the hanging can still be stopped by the Supreme Court or the President.

The current activities about suspected ritualist stealing female underwears have gotten many people scared. These People go as far as breaking into ladies hostels to steal their pants

Former Miss Delta turned Nollywood actress Lizzy Gold Onuwaje has publicly revealed that she is saying goodbye to wearing of underwears. She disclosed that she has developed some kind of phobia for it due to the recent trend in the country. Lizzy Gold further explained that her sudden phobia for the underwear is for it not to be used for ritual purposes. Due to this, she said she will no longer wear pants.
She said: “I’m saying goodbye to wearing pants. No more wearing of underwear. So recently I heard some group of ladies were returning from church and they were stopped by Gun men and asked to take off their pants. I heard this from a reliable source, so please let’s be on guard. To my colleagues, you know we spend most of our times in hotels during filming, we can’t trust these hotel workers. They might come in when you not around and steal your pants. I beg you, if you can’t avoid wearing pants, then travel with just two pants so you can be able to monitor them. I repeat, you can’t trust anyone, even ladies now steal pants. Protect your sanity, always be on guard and also protect your peace. All ladies should stay woke and be more prayerful.”

Reorts earlier had it that a young man reportedly escaped being lynched by angry mobs after he was caught with 58 female pants at a student area in Mgbakwu, Anambra state. Identified as Ifeanyi from Umuneke in Enugu, the young man confessed to stealing more than the said amount before he was caught.

Andrew Neil accuses Owen Jones of ‘SMEARS AND LIES’ and debate ‘HIJACK’ in major BBC row

LEFT-WING writer Owen Jones was accused of spreading “smears and lies” last night by BBC host Andrew Neil, during a heated row over promoting bigotry during an appearance on the ‘This Week’ politics show.

Mr Jones had accused The Spectator, a magazine Mr Neil is involved with, of stoking prejudice. The two men had previously clashed on Twitter. Separately, former Tory Minister Michael Portillo said Mr Jones didn’t understand why people voted for Brexit.

The row was over Mr Neil’s role as chairman of Holdings Media Group, which publishes the conservative leading Spectator magazine.
Mr Jones claimed the magazine had “defended Greek neo-Nazis” and published Islamophobic content.
Mr Neil fired back commenting: “I knew you were going to bring that up and I won’t let you hijack.

Your smears about me are not going to be dealt with tonight so just move off.”
The confrontation took place during a debate on extremism in UK politics, after Mr Jones and Tory MP Anna Soubry were abused outside Parliament earlier in the week by a small group of far-right activists.
Mr Jones was separately accused of trying to blame the wider UK conservative movement for far-right extremism.

Former Tory Minister Michael Portillo said: “Owen himself is guilty of the thing about which he makes an accusation.
“He taken an indecent outside the House of Commons, he takes the rise of some very nasty people, and they he tries to smear the entire Conservative Party.
“This is the breakdown of decent discourse. It is absolutely outrageous what you say and I think many people will be shocked.”
Mr Portillo argued mainstream conservative politicians had universally condemned far-right violence, saying “all mainstream politicians are against that”, whilst the current Labour leader appeared “sympathetic” towards the IRA

He stated: “When Conservative Members of Parliament were being murdered by the IRA, when the IRA attempted to kill the leader of this country, Jeremy Corbyn was sympathetic to the IRA.”
Just weeks after the IRA attempted to murder Margaret Thatcher in the 1984 Brighton bombing Mr Corbyn invited senior Sinn Fein figures, then widely regarded as the political wing of the IRA, to the Houses of Parliament.

The two Sinn Fein members who attended, Gerry MacLochlainn and Linda Quigley, were both previously convicted IRA members.
Mr Corbyn insists he only maintained links with Sinn Fein to push for peace in Northern Ireland.
Separately in 2017 John McDonnell, now Shadow Chancellor, praised actions by the IRA terror group.
He said: “It’s about time we started honouring those people involved in the armed struggle.
“It was the bombs and bullets and sacrifice made by the likes of Bobby Sands that brought Britain to the negotiating table.
“The peace we have now is due to the action of the IRA. Because of the bravery of the IRA and people like Bobby Sands, we now have a peace process.”
Mr McDonnell later apologised for these comments in 2017.

“My name is Abubakar Abdul Mumin, from Yepeli in the Northern Region of Ghana. I am 27 years and a final year student of Tamale Technical University. I am studying Statistics. I am also the Organiser of the Statistics Department. I won the position in a very hot election.
I didn’t know I could win because I didn’t put any money in that but those who voted for me explained that they like my diligence and ability to unite people. I appreciate. Statistics is a very a very difficult course so I have little time to spare. A lot of my friends think I have left them but my education takes a lot of my time now.
I am always indoors reading and learning new things to master the course. During my long vacations, I take time to teach Mathematics at the Yepeligu Junior High School. I have done that for three years and I do it for free. The School is not far from my place so I can manage. I had a very difficult time in the JHS because even though I like mathematics, we never had a Mathematics teacher throughout my stay. It was hard but I passed. I go to teach because I don’t want them to experience the same difficulties. The children like me and I feel proud.
When I have other opportunities on short vacations, I sell coconut and support my education. I started selling when I was 19. I never get embarrassed when people look down on me because of what I do. I am strong. Peoples opinions do not put me down because I know who I am.
I want to learn to the highest level and achieve my goals. My goal is to make a very good impact on my people in the North and in Ghana. I want to teach. I also want to help my district with my statistics education and compile data that has been overlooked about my people. My brother is the administrator at Karaga District Assembly.
He helps me a lot and I also want to help my parents and siblings wholeheartedly. I have supported myself and paid all my school fees for three years through selling. I move out of Tamale to other regions to sell. Sometimes for two months, I stay with my friends in those areas and then when I have enough, I move back to school. I want to graduate with a good grade, I am currently on second class upper and I feel proud. I will make it one day. Now, I have saved enough to buy my handouts and pay other dues. I will return to school by mid January and complete my school. I believe the future is how you choose to make it, sometimes. I love peace and we must all help make our lives better.”

The veteran actress advised Nigerian parents to stop putting pressure on their kids when it comes to getting married to reduce the high rate of divorce in the nation.

I went to Boko Haram’s camp to beg my son to surrender but… – Father

  • …Said he was told where their camp is
  • …said it took him one week to arrive at the camp
  • …said for one month, he was there with the terrorists trying to persuade his son to surrender
Malam Baba Modu, an 80 year-old father to a Boko Haram commander, popularly called ‘Ba-Ana’, has begged his son to surrender and embrace peace.

Modu made the call in an interview with NAN on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
He said that he was unable to persuade his son to abandon the cause and surrender under the Federal Government’s Operation Safe Corridor.
Recounting his ordeal, Modu said his son was conscripted by the insurgents in 2012 at a farm in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno.
“I lost hope of meeting my son after his abduction in the past seven years. One day, I met someone who told me that my son was alive and mentioned where I can find him.
”I was also told he is one of the commanders of the Albarnawi faction of the Boko Haram.
“I travelled to the shores of the Lake Chad to plead with Ba-Ana to surrender and embrace peace. It took me about one week to get to where I met him.
“When I arrived at the camp, I told them that I am the father of Ba’ana and after series of interrogations, they asked me to wait for him to return from a mission.
“Ba-Ana returned at night, he was marveled to see me, and when he heard my voice; he told his men that I am his father.
“I pleaded with him for about 30 days in a bid to convince him to lay down his arms and embrace peace, regrettably he did not heed my counsel.
“Ba-Ana confessed that he killed many people and believed that the authorities would not forgive his crimes. He also believed that he had committed his life in the course of God.
“I did not lose hope; I will continue to pray God to heal his soul and bring him back to me,“ he said.

2019 election: PDP is dead – Tambuwal, Wamakko declare

A  forme Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and the Zonal Coordinator of the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign, Alhaji Umaru Nangwari Tambuwal, have declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, dead in the state.

The duo said they were already doing a final burial of the PDP in Sokoto State.

Wamakko and Tambuwal spoke in Denge Town, Headquarters of Denge-Shuni Local Government during the state during APC campaign flag off.

According to Wamakko, the APC was the only party that meant well for the state and Nigeria at large.
Presenting the APC flag to the governorship candidate of the party in the coming election, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and Faruk Malami Yabo, his deputy, Wamakko said by God’s grace, the election is already won.
The former Governor said that APC tried to bring politicians who fear God, who love the state and who were ready to work for the state.

“This journey is for all of you. Come out en masse and ensure that PDP gets a final burial in the state. Cast all your votes for the APC.
“Cast all your votes for President Muhammadu Buhari in the coming general elections,” he stated.
Also speaking, Tambuwal said no politician in the state commands followership like Senator Aliyu Wamakko.
He said, “We are doing official burial ceremony of PDP in the state. We learnt former governor, Dalhatu Bafarawa petitioned EFCC that he left 13 billion in Sokoto’s coffers before leaving office.
“APC is challenging Bafarawa today to come out and state which bank and the account number such money was saved.
“We have done our calculation and come to the conclusion that PMB is going to win in 26 states with the exclusion of Abuja.”
