Kovacic left in limbo with time running out for Chelsea to complete permanent deal

Former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri wanted to keep the Croatia international at Stamford Bridge, but his departure may now have changed things

Chelsea have just seven days to make a decision on the future of Mateo Kovacic with the Real Madrid midfielder unsure of where he will be playing his football next season.
Having spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Stamford Bridge, Kovacic could see that deal extended or be signed permanently by the Blues before July 1.
As a source previously reported, Chelsea would be able to circumvent their impending transfer ban if they wish to keep Kovacic due to them already holding his registration from his time with the club last term.

The 25-year-old is yet to hear from the west London outfit, however, and despite having signalled that he would wish to stay in the English capital he has been left in limbo following the coaching upheaval within Chelsea.
Maurizio Sarri was keen to keep Kovacic at the club, but the Italian coach's departure to join Juventus means the futures of many players are less clear.
Derby County boss Frank Lampard is being lined up to replace Sarri and return to the club where he holds legendary status as a player, and it is unclear whether he would want to keep Kovacic within his squad.
Mason Mount, who played under Lampard for the Rams on loan last season, has secured a visa to join the Blues on their pre-season tour of Japan, and as such the number of places within the club's midfield has been further limited.
Madrid, meanwhile, are keen to raise funds having spent in the region of €300 million (£270m/$340m) on five players already this summer, including €100m on Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard.
They remain keen on signing Paul Pogba from Manchester United while a move for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar is also on the table, and as such players must be sold to ensure the required finances are in place.
Kovacic is among 13 players who Zinedine Zidane deems surplus to requirements, with Gareth Bale, Isco, James Rodriguez and Keylor Navas also set to be moved on if Los Blancos can find buyers.
Inter and AC Milan have both been linked with Kovacic should he not remain at Chelsea, though it is understood that Sassuolo's Stefano Sensi is the midfielder being lined up by former Blues boss Antonio Conte at the former.
Officials from Milan, meanwhile, met with Madrid last week as they too plan a summer revamp following the departure of manager Gennaro Gattuso and sporting director Leonardo.
Kovacic is not the only loanee whose future remains unclear following a spell at Chelsea, with Gonzalo Higuain having disappointed during his time at Stamford Bridge.
With Sarri having taken over at the Argentina international's parent club Juve it has been expected that he would be given a second chance to make an impact at the Allianz Stadium.
The Italian champions have begun talks with his brother and agent, Nicholas, regarding his future, but it seems unlikely it will be at Chelsea.

Zamfara: Bandits give conditions for ceasefire

- Bandits in Zamfara have given conditions for laying down their arms; one of them being the halting of extra-judicial killings of Fulani - The bandits are also demanding that they be allowed to attend local markets without fear or intimidation - According to the Zamfara CP, the crisis is being fuelled by unlawful executions of suspected criminals - Vigilantes in the state have expressed readiness to do anything that will ensure that peace returns; but not at their detriment Bandits in Zamfara have given conditions for laying down their arms; one of them being that extra-judicial killings of Fulani, especially in local markets, should be halted. The disclosure was made by the state’s commissioner of police, Usman Nagoggo, during a meeting with vigilantes and volunteers popularly known as Yan Sakai on Thursday, June 20, Daily Trust reports.

A source gathers that the bandits are also demanding that they be allowed to attend local markets without fear or intimidation. According to Nagoggo, the armed men had been contacted by authorities, and they gave the assurance that they would stop the carnage in the state, only on conditions. He said: “Part of the conditions they gave was that the Yan Sakai should halt the extra judicial killings of Fulani, especially in local markets. The bandits said they should be allowed to attend local markets without fear or intimidation. “That is why we are holding this meeting to intimate you about the new peace road map being designed by the government. “In a situation whereby a local vigilante will kill one of the bandits and the armed men would slay about 30 persons in retaliation, what is the gain here?” The CP pointed out that the crisis is being fuelled by unlawful executions of suspected criminals, and implored the vigilante leaders to reach out to their followers and ask them to stop such practice. The secretary of the Yan Sakai group in the state, Sani Babbar Doka, reacting to the development, stated: “In the peace pact that took place about three years ago, we surrendered our arms as demanded by the government, but the armed criminals did not. “We are ready for anything that will ensure that peace returns to our communities, but not at the detriment of the opposing group."

41-year-old widower weds 13-year-girl three months after meeting on Facebook, family approves of the marriage

Over the past couple of years, the Indonesian province of South Sulawesi has been in the news with alarming frequency for viral stories of children getting married, either among themselves or with much older adults.
According to reports, a 41-year-old widower named Rustam Ashary last week married a 13-year-old girl, who has been identified by her initials SW, both of whom are from the Sidrap regency of South Sulawesi.
Rustam met SW on Facebook, and the pair reportedly communicated via the social media platform for three months before deciding to marry.
We the families gave our blessings to their relationship,” SW’s mother, Nurhayati, told Detik after her child’s marriage, insisting that her daughter was never pressured into marrying Rustam and that they are now happy together.

“She’s still in Grade 1 at an MTs (religious middle school, equivalent to grade 7),” Nurhayati added when asked about her daughter’s schooling.
Photos from Rustam and SW’s wedding day have circulated online, some showing them holding up their marriage certificate, confirming that the union is legally recognized.
The South Sulawesi provincial government say they had no legal jurisdiction to prevent Rustam and SW’s marriage, but now that it has happened they are focusing on ensuring that SW still receives her rights as a child.
“We want to ensure she gets her rights such as to a full education,” South Sulawesi Child Protection Services Head Nur Anti told Detik .
Nur added that the government has urged SW to delay her pregnancy until after she finishes formal schooling, but the reality is that it would be difficult for them to intervene in Rustam and SW’s private lives, whereas, if they weren’t legally married, the 13-year-old would be considered a victim of statutory rape.
The current legal age of marriage in Indonesia is 19 years old for men and 16 years old for women. However, the country’s 1974 Law on Marriage also includes a major loophole to this requirement which allows marriages to still be considered legal if they are done “in accordance” with religious belief, known as nikah siri.
As such, underage marriages that have been sanctified by religious courts or officials must still be officially recognized by the government — if not, many are satisfied with merely fulfilling religious or traditional requirements for marriage.
